How to prevent and treat various ailments
It’s a well-known fact that everyone gets sick – and in today’s busy world, you don’t always have time to see the doctor. Maybe it’s time to put modern medicine aside for a second and consider home remedies.
Maybe you remember your grandmother telling you to slip a shot of whiskey into a cup of tea or put a cold compress on your head when you have a headache. These are essentially home remedies, and they’re not necessarily old wives’ tales. In fact, some home remedies work better than conventional medicine.
Home Cold Remedies
Perhaps the most famous of all home cold remedies is eating chicken soup. In fact, this remedy really works – the salt and chicken in the soup help to clear bronchitis and chest congestion, while the steam helps clear a blocked-up nose and soothes a sore throat. Herbal remedies like ginseng, Echinacea and garlic help in various ways to clear up sore throats and build immunity against the common cold. Don’t forget that a good steam bath or even just boiling mint tea can help clear heavy chest congestion and leave you breathing easier.
Home Snoring Remedies
Do you or does someone you know snore? Doctors may suggest surgery, but you can help stop the problem by using some of these home snoring remedies. Nasal strips that you can buy over the counter work to open the airway at night and let you (or the snorer) breathe easier. If you don’t want to spend any money, try these simple lifestyle adjustments:
- A weight loss routine can help take some of that extra fat and heaviness off your middle, eliminating the pressure on your chest and throat that causes you to snore.
- Avoiding alcohol and sedatives before bed, and changing your sleep position, can also help to stop the noise at night.
- Lastly, if none of these remedies work, you can try inhaling steam before bedtime to open your airway and free up blocked nasal passages.
Home Hair Loss Remedies
If you’re a man who’s losing his hair, you don’t have to get expensive hair plugs. Try some of these hair loss remedies that you can do from home (and mostly for free):
- Massage the scalp daily to stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles. There are several electronic massagers on the market that can do this for you.
- If that doesn’t work, try aromatherapy. Not only is it relaxing, it also helps reduce hair loss. Put 6 drops each of lavender and bay essential oils into 4 ounces of either almond, soybean or sesame oil. Massage this into the scalp and let it sit for twenty minutes. Aromatherapists often use this to stimulate the scalp.
- Lastly, you can try exercise as a great way to improve blood flow throughout your body, including to your hair follicles.
Whatever your ailment, there’s probably a home remedy available for you to try. These remedies are excellent ways to take control of your health, and you’d also be reducing pressure on the medical system.
