How to get whiter teeth

A beautiful smile is one of the best things about a person – a bright smile is magnetic, attractive and welcoming to others. But if you have not-so-white teeth, you may feel self-conscious about your smile. Luckily, there are many things you can do to whiten your teeth without having to resort to expensive treatments. Try natural remedies to whiten your teeth for free, or see your dentist about other techniques you can use to get those teeth bright and smiling white.

Get White Teeth without Breaking the Bank

If you want to whiten your teeth quickly, why not try using common household items? Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are both whitening agents that can brighten your smile. If you mix two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide with baking soda and add a bit of regular toothpaste, you can make a tooth-whitening paste. Conversely, many types of toothpaste already have whitening agents like baking soda in them, so if you don’t want to experiment, simply buy one of these pastes and use it daily. Positive results should follow within a few weeks.

However, if you want your teeth whitened quickly, try a teeth whitening system. These systems, which are usually quite affordable, can be obtained through your dentist or at your local drug store. They contain teeth whitening gels that, when placed in the included mouth guards, will make your teeth a few shades lighter every session. The gel is made with hydrogen peroxide. However, you should consult your dentist before using these kits; the substances and agents in these teeth whitening kits can be hazardous for people with certain health conditions, such as gum disease. Pregnant women should also avoid them.

Whiten Your Teeth Professionally

Professional teeth whitening can be done at your dentist’s office and may include laser teeth whitening treatments. If you choose this option, the dentist will use a laser to take off shallow stains and discoloration to reveal the whiter enamel underneath. Another teeth whitening treatment is gentle abrasion, which uses a specialized tool to gently remove stains on the outer layers of the teeth. Your dentist may also apply bleaches or other chemical agents to create a healthy white smile.

A whiter smile isn’t unattainable – in fact, it can be quite inexpensive to brighten up your smile and boost your self esteem. However, for deep or very dark stains, your dentist is the person to see for whiter teeth.
